Central Turkey means Cappadocia to most travellers. That is Turkey's most visually striking region, the "moonscape" land where erosion has formed caves, fairy chimneys and pinnacles in the soft volcanic rocks. The regional boundaries extend to the west Konya, to the east Kayseri and to the north Ankara. Konya is known internationally for the whirling dervishes sect, Kayseri (the city of Caesar, Roman emperor) an important Seljuk city while Ankara is Turkey's capital city. Gordion Catalhoyuk
