Bingol (old name: Capakcur) is the capital of the Bingol province of Eastern Anatolia 144 km due east of Elazig. The area is of largely mountains terrain (reaching over 3000 metres) rich in streams and glaciers lakes where unspoilt green valleys characterize the landscape. The presence of the large number of glaciers lakes has justly qualified the name 'Bingol' meaning one thousand lakes.
Hot and dry summers and cold and snowy winters characterize the climate, July and August are driest whereas February and December wettest.
No flights yet to Bingol but to Mus, nearest airpot, at 118 km. Flights to Mus is scheduled everyday from Ankara except Saturdays and Sundays.
If you are heading from the west by road it is 144 km from Elazig. Also there are rail services, by Elazig, right to Istanbul.
