Hieropolis is the sacred antique city that ancients belied to have been founded by the God Apollo next to the hot springs in Pamukkale in the province of inner western Turkey. The first orderly settlers were probably the Seleucids in 4th century BC, and later around 2 C BC part of the Pergammon kingdom.
From the very early times it became famous for its hot springs which they believed to have curing properties. Vapor rising from the source was associated with the under world God Pluto.
The influx of people arriving here either recovered or died here resulting in one of the largest necropolis in Anatolia. The antique hot spring pool near the God Apollo temple is an ideal place for a swim with the earth quake toppled columns still left lying in the pool. Frequent earthquake occurrences have devastated the city, the severest in 60 AD.
Today it is one of the prominent tourist destination attracting thousands of people annually.
